SAGE VEGAN BISTRO is a beloved farm to table, seasonal, plant based restaurant that opened its Culver City doors in 2013. Founder, Mollie Engelhart, was raised vegan on a small farm in upstate New York. In addition to her affection for food and cooking, she is extremely passionate about animals and the environment. Sage proudly partners with local farmers who are committed to practicing organic, pesticide free farming and regenerative agriculture.
Why We're Green
Sage recently went the extra mile by acquiring Sow Heart Farms, to grow their own organic produce for the bistro. The farm is a closed loop system that makes compost from Sage’s food waste to grow the produce! Sage also partners with ‘Kiss the Ground’ foundation to raise money to educate farmers on sustainable practices. $2 from the sale of each Perennial Bowl menu item supports scholarships for education and training in regenerative agriculture.
Sage demonstrates their commitment to operating zero waste by being one of the first restaurants in Culver City to eliminate plastic straws, and switch to compostable paper straws.
Sage’s dining area is furnished with reclaimed wood furniture ranging from wood crates to vintage farm equipment. Energy efficiency features include LED lighting and Energy Star rated equipment, saving over 800 kWh annually. Kitchen and bar faucets and restrooms include high efficiency devices and toilets equating saving over 28,000 gallons annually.
