The Presidio Trust is a federal agency that manages the 1,400+ acre urban national park at the northern tip of San Francisco. The Presidio is a former army base that includes over 400 historic buildings, 24 miles of scenic trails, over 300 bird species and 14 native plant communities. In addition to Presidio-wide programs focused on restoring native ecosystems and increasing biodiversity in the park, the Trust has a robust heritage program and both residential and commercial leasing. We welcome the public to cultural programs to recreational activities like marathons and community picnics. Underlying all of our efforts is an emphasis on Sustainability.
Why We're Green
Housed in a historic, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold building, the Presidio Trust headquarters is the administrative center for the agency. Rehabilitated in 2012, building 103 combined historic green features like operable windows and natural daylight with state-of the-art technology like efficient lighting, plumbing and heating. One area where the Presidio really excels is in our waste reduction efforts which emphasize creative reuse of salvaged materials, on-site composting and aggressive recycling. Our staff are leaders in the field of Integrated Pest Management and we run a free, clean-fuel shuttle to minimize car trips and reduce carbon emissions in the park.
It was a pleasure working with the SF Green Business team and especially Kevin Kumataka. They helped us through each aspect of the certification and were quick to offer resources and solutions. This would be a beneficial process for any business to improve their processes and ‘green’ their practices.
