Why We're Green
While San Francisco hotels average 60% diversion, the Omni San Francisco Hotel achieved an 83% diversion rate in 2019 by recycling over 132 tons and composting over 270 tons of waste annually and has a goal of achieving a 92% diversion rate by the end of 2020. Omni San Francisco harvests over 100 lbs of honey per season and planted their olive trees on the rooftop of the hotel which are harvested biannually. All guestroom shower lights and lamps have been replaced with LED bulbs and motion sensor bi-level lighting was installed in the stairwells. Also, the transition to VFD drive controlled fan-coil units in guestrooms have greatly reduced power and provided quieter circulation for guests. Omni San Francisco has partnered with Clean the World, a program that recycles left-over guest cosmetic amenities. Together, we continue to divert an average of over three tons of useable products from landfills. This includes over 3,000 soap bars diverted, 700 pounds of plastic recycled and over 1,000 plastic bottles have been made into hygiene kits. By thoroughly analyzing the usage, Omni San Francisco started a new system of distributing guest newspapers through PressReader. Subscribing to the Digital version of NY Times, Financial Times and other periodicals resulted in a year-over-year reduction of over 10,000 newspaper waste annually to support our Zero Waste Goal.
