The Community Food Co-op is Whatcom County's only locally owned full service grocery store. We offer an abundance of natural foods at affordable prices, and have the largest selection of local products in the area. In business since 1970, we are community-owned and anyone is welcome to shop at our stores. We are a quadruple bottom line business - equal weight is given to people, planet, profit, and purpose.
Why We're Green
Our green practices have been built into our business since 1970, including but not limited to: we divert 90% of our waste from the landfill, only use plastic cups for to-go drinks when requested by the customer, are a Platinum Ocean Friendly Restaurant, and are an EPA Top 30 green power retailer. We have been nationally recognized for our environmental initiatives and practices and are considered a leader in our industry when it comes to our commitment to being as responsible as we can, within an industry that is so destructive to the environment.
The sustainability initiatives that the Co-op chooses to endeavor don't increase our sales but they are an integral part of our business structure as we feel it is the best way to chow respect to our community and environment.
